▶ KT to launch LTE automatic roaming service in Singapore
▶ 1.8GHz band adopted by LTE major global operators, allowing KT to offer LTE roaming services in different countries
▶ Ongoing talks on KT’s partnership with Hutchison Hong Kong, Singapore’s Star Hub, and Philippines’ Smart to offer the global LTE roaming service.
KT is the first operator in the country to implement the automatic LTE roaming services throughout Singapore.
KT (Chairman, Lee, Suk-Chae, www.kt.com) announced on Sep 25 that KT would launch the first automatic roaming service to its LTE mobile customers from October 1.
The LTE automatic roaming service will be provided in 1.8 GHz band in partnership with Singapore’s mobile operator, M1, and, thus, the LTE customers will be easily able to use the auto roaming service without having to rent a mobile phone when they visit Singapore.
In particular, unlike competitors allowing the automatic roaming service to only customers using particular mobile phones, KT will allow it to its all LTE customers since KT’s roaming service is available regardless of mobile device.
Therefore, the automatic roaming service will be applied to KT’s entire new LTE phone lineup including LG "Optimus View2" and "Optimus G" and Pantech "Vega Racer R3" and for the present LTE customers, the service will be available through mobile manufacturers software upgrades.
1.8GHz is a global band adopted by most major operators, and as it has nationwide LTE network coverage in 1.8GHz, KT expects to expand its automatic roaming service to more countries in partnership with global operators.
The LTE automatic roaming service will charge the same rate as the 3G data roaming service, 3.5 won per packet, and KT will offer up to 5GB LTE data free of charge until November 30 to customers who are subscribed to 'unlimited data roaming’ plans to commemorate its service launch.
KT is promoting partnerships with Hutchison in Hong Kong, StarHub in Singapore, and Smart in Philippines in close cooperation with CONEXUS, which is the global largest mobile alliance, to offer its LTE automatic roaming service in those countries
“We will provide our LTE WARP customers with real LTE automatic roaming service regardless of mobile device they use in 1.8 GHz adopted by most global mobile operators,” said Kang, Kuk-Hyun, director of KT Product Division “We will continue expanding our roaming service coverage by building strategic partnerships with global mobile operators.”
